Symmetry Spotlight: Christina Donnelly

Christina Donnelly, Chief of Staff, shares her Symmetry experience.

What led you to a career in finance?

I started in 2010, so I've been here for more than 10 years. Before that, I worked in large companies where you’re sort of a number among many.

What I like about Symmetry—and what I’ve thrived in—is the entrepreneurial spirit. If you see something you’d like to do, you can present it and be effectual, and make it happen. It’s very gratifying to work in that kind of environment.

What is Symmetry’s key differentiator?

The nimbleness of Symmetry. We also have some very bright people who work here who are constantly trying to keep us ahead of the curve and what is out there. We have some exciting new investment vehicles we’re working on that are a function of us keeping our eye on where things are going in the industry and I think that collectively we’ve all come together and made that happen. I’m working in an environment of people who are exciting and implementers.

What is the most important way you help Symmetry’s clients?

My role within Symmetry is to keep the wheels turning. I’m Chief of Staff, so I wear many different hats. That includes not only watching out for projects and major initiatives, but also the employees who work here, and events, Advisor events. All of that together has the one main goal of helping the Advisors to help their clients.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned professionally?

Being in the industry for so long, you see both good and bad. I’ve been a sponge toward what I think is good in a person. Being compassionate, being understanding, yet being firm and fair are things that I’ve seen in other managers and I try to emulate that and offer that same environment here at Symmetry.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

I’ve never asked anybody to do something I wouldn’t do myself. If people are here late, I stay late with them.

I think it’s important to understand all aspects of the company and where everybody is coming from. And I think it’s important to do that from their view instead of looking at it from above.

Investing involves risk, including the loss of some or all of your principal. Diversification seeks to reduce volatility by spreading your investment dollars into various asset classes to add balance to your portfolio. Using this methodology, however, does not guarantee a profit or protection from loss in a declining market.
